Broly was never one of my favorite characters from the anime. Don’t get me wrong, the fights between Broly and the Z Warriors are some the most entertaining DBZ has to offer. But when compared to the shows other villains Broly lacks personality. Despite his lack of personality when it comes to the card game Broly has a lot going for him. He has some of the best named and character only cards in game. This combined with his strong personality powers and ability to quickly increase levels make Broly one of the best beat down characters in the game.
The first thing you may notice about this Broly list is that I don’t run a full 85 card deck. I opted to run a smaller more focused sixty card life deck. My main reason for doing this is because I wanted to make sure that I got cards like Gohan’s Kick, Broly’s Might and Majin Buu’s Fury in my hand during the first couple of turns of the game. This strategy gives the deck a very strong match up against ball and non-combat based decks. A smaller more focused deck can be somewhat of a liability when going against other heavy beatdown decks. Such as red or another Saiyan deck. You will have to use your best judgment on what you think the environment will be like. If you decide to go up to 85 cards Siayan easily has enough awesome cards to do so.

You’re doing it wrong.
Broly 1-3 works only as a super rush 1-3 deck. Props for getting the level 2 right (an incredible point of contention back in the day,)but it only works if you can get to level 3 turn 1 and smash faces for the kill. As it stands, this deck will stall at level 2, because so much of the deck is your standard beats set of cards (Power Beam, SARS, Beef, etc.) In which case it IS better to use the Electrified and run 85 cards. Basically, you need to lose just about every card that doesn’t gain anger and every block and event period. It doesn’t seem like a great idea with TS mastery, but that’s not a good mastery compared to the CS mastery. And CS Mastery hitting 2 cards is so important that it’s not a great idea to run CIT, Staredown, TES, Kick. Basically any colorless card outside of Majin Buu’s Fury, and Frantic Attack. (an argument could be made for the old Ginyu attack to gain 2 anger, too) There were too many non-essential cards to bother relisting, and it’s been a while since I’ve actually built the deck. But building a slow/techy 60-65 card deck is just going to get you killed by every SWK deck and probably every decent beatdown deck there is. And you still won’t beat ball consistently because that’s how good ball is. And you run Namek Balls? Earthballs are basically god’s gift to this deck. The synergy they have is absolutely incredible and are so much easier to use that the Namek balls. Earth 5 turn one basically wins games.
This deck has an identity crisis. It wants to be a 65 card deck, but it won’t give up the cards that make it an 85 card deck.
I would be interested in checking out your Broly list. You are welcome to write an article about it and I’ll post it on the site.
Good list — the most intriguing thing since I’ve been re-discovering “focused Z” is that the game is a lot slower than I remember; not in terms of decks that can ‘one-turn kill’ or ball out super fast; but just the fact that we are back to a draw 3 random card environment.
Personally I love the TS Mastery here; combined with Broly’s sick PUR and the popularity of many lower-PUR characters, it’s a great fit. I’ve never been a fan of Broly (game or show) but you can’t deny his power.
One thing of note is that Saiyan Heads Up isn’t really necessary. It was fine when it was really all Saiyan had to combat NCs and Allies, but that stopped being the case in Buu Saga. Granted you don’t want to run too many energies, so I’m not suggesting the ones in the set itself. But the Broly subset had cards like Saiyan Cliff Slam and Saiyan Surprise which would work much better, since they don’t require a successful hit to nuke the cards.
I’d also suggest getting a third Acute Rapid Slam in there. Focused +5 is pretty strong in Old Z, especially when it also heals you (moreso when you’re running a smaller deck).
I took Sayjin’s advice and cut Saiyan Head’s Up for another copy of Acute Rapid Slam and Saiyan Clothesline.
Hey, I like the deck but it does seem to be stuck in the middle between a full constructed broly 85 card and a streamline 50 card. Although is is the wrong forum for this, I would really like to purchase your fury set if that is at all possible (been checking all over the web and no one wants to part with furies)
I’ve read about Broly triple victory being one of the better if not the best decks for Focused Z last year. Did “Retro Rules” have a negative effect on this archetype? It seemed to not get any play at Gencon this year from what I read.
It did have a negative effect. Well buu in general had a negative effect. It has a very hard time against buu. It wins against everything else, buu is just too much with his stage gain and high base.
How well does this stand up to Black hand destruction decks?
Not sure how garretts specific version does but the 50 card rush deck does very well against black decks in general. Against control you pretty much keep entering til you get a fury or a kick and can stay in combat. Most mps that use black cs are 1-3 which makes it almost a auto win. Against beatdown decks, it can beat anything that isn’t buu. It destroys bojack first combat about 80% of the time either by mppv or it can do it by beats if it was TE.
Why run this level 2 over the electrified? Just for a stronger combat when you first hit it?
That is the reason.
I don’t like this deck at all. Wrong Mastery and Sensei, needs more Paragus + South Kai and should be running EDB 5 and Alt. EDB 3.
