This is a deck I toyed with that has quickly become one of my favorites. It uses the much maligned Majin Buu Saga Saiyan Style Mastery and the underused Goku Sensei to get Kid Trunks to the incredibly broke Trunks the Powerful (via Kid Trunks the Teenager). Once you get there, you pretty much cripple many of the decks in the game by robbing them of even the ability to perform an energy attack.
Sensei Deck (10):
Doesn’t Matter x3
Non-Combats (2):
Dragon Balls (7):
Battlegrounds (3):
Defense (13):
Saiyan Stop x3
Utility (12):
Physical Attacks (15):
Energy Attacks (27):
True Grit x3
The goal is to get to level 4 as quickly as possible. I use Kid Trunks instead of Future Trunks, just because his Lv. 1-3 powers are a bit better if you plan on leveling up. In particular, the level three is pretty brutal if it goes off, but don’t linger there as the deck has very few built in defenses against energy attacks. With the Saiyan Mastery you should get there in no time, even if you don’t enter combat every turn.
Once you get to level four, your opponent should already be hurting from your constant barrage of energy attacks, which should be gaining you a stage every time you perform a Saiyan one thanks to the mastery. There are a few great Saiyan energy attacks, most can be empowered for around 6-8 life cards a piece. Do not underestimate True Grit, not only does it have a great secondary effect of removing endurance from the equation, but also removing cards in the discard with the “if successful” effect.
Whether you use EDQ or just play balls normally, once you get to Level 4 your opponent will have a very difficult time stealing those off of you. Against an annoying Namekian deck with huge energy attacks and tons of recursion, balling out is your best option. Just play it by ear if you think energy beats or DB victory is the way to go. It’s a pretty fun Saiyan deck to play, especially considering you’re not drawing six cards a turn. For bonus points, get Vegeta’s Surprised attached to curb those physical beats!
Later BroZ!
That Doesn’t Matter card is sooo good! Every deck should be running 3 copies.
It really takes advantage of the Sensei Deck mechanic.
What’s the effect of “doesn’t matter”? And from which saga? google can’t find any of it
It’s not a card. It literally means it doesn’t matter what card you put in your Sensei, since you will rarely want to risk losing a Dragon Ball. Occasionally I’ll shuffle in Saiyan Headshot if I’m feeling lucky, but most times you don’t want to risk it at all.
haha am I stupid…? thanks for clearing me up
With no cards to stop energy attacks you are going to take a lot of damage before you get to level 4. I suppose it’s a fair trade off since they won’t be doing any damage once you get up there.
A deck that does a mix of physical and energy attacks might be a huge pain for you. Worst care scenario someone steals your Namek DB to shut off your CCP.
You never really want to put out your Dragon Balls in this deck until you can get to Lv. 4. I have lost matches by putting my Balls out to early.
The low energy defense isn’t too much of an issue due to the speed Trunks jumps levels thanks to Goku Sensei. You will probably take a few to the face, but Energy doesn’t typically chain attacks as well/fast early game as Physical so you should be at Lv. 4 before long.
in life, you often lose by taking out your balls too early
Don’t worry, it happens to a lot of guys.
No Saiyan Brace?
I focus more on playing the awesome physical attack defenses over omni-blocks, since once you shoot up to level four energy defense becomes unnecessary. Add in that Saiyan Brace has only a once-per-game main secondary effect (though the slight anger gain is nice) and is RFGAU, its usefulness is greatly diminished compared to the other blocks I have selected.
Saiyan Truce Card, while it is an amazing card and is included in the deck, is not as much of a powerhouse in an energy beats deck since you go right after the life deck, rather than having to lower your opponent to zero and continually launch attacks in the span of a single combat. This is why I did not feel Gohan’s Kick was needed. It also goes back to reducing the effectiveness of Saiyan Brace in the deck.
