I’ve been doing a lot of losing lately – I can’t remember the last time I won a DBZ game. Each time I’m crushed, I reflect on other decks of mine that did the same. I know what you’re thinking, SPOOKED was just released and you want to play Goten fusion with Gotenks Kamikaze Ghost. Well I’m here to tell you that’s probably a pipe dream – he’s mostly unplayable. Why…I bet you could call him an unplayable dream. Greetings Dragon Ballers, Didier here with this times forgettable warrior.
The Upside
First of all, let us not overlook the amazing Goten level three from World Games, which can cherry pick any two of the bottom four cards of your discard pile if it is successful. That’s not saying you can reach it mind you. As a main personality, Goten has really only one choice for his level one. The Goten Majin Buu High Tech has a power that is pretty potent in the right deck. Adding +3 damage to all physicals, a beatdown deck using the Red Cell Saga Mastery or Orange World Games Mastery would synergize well while abusing that level. At worst the power must be blocked and at best it adds anywhere from 9 – 15 extra damage in one combat…and sometimes more! Attacks used multiple times like Red Shattering Leap are great for milking out extra damage. As an ally, level one Goten from Majin Buu boasts a PAT+6 damage attack; which is high compared to others. The little guy does have some things going for him. I would hope so since his dad is Earth’s champion and savior. However I don’t need to tell you how using this tike pans out in a fusion deck.
The Downside
-Lack of named cards. You know what most characters that are good in decks- Gohan, Majin Buu, Broly, …the list goes on – have in common? They have useful named cards. Goten has two. Goten’s Flying Drill is for freestyle (again, named cards) and please don’t be rushing to use Goten’s Focused Blast any time soon.
-“If successful.” At its core, the MBS HT power is just a forced block if they have one. And it just so happens that physical blocks have much more powerful effects and are far more usable than energy blocks. Also, stop alls be damned.
-Most of his levels suck. Using the powerful MBS HT level one forces you into the much inferior gate fold level two. Actually most of his level twos are mediocre. While the MBS level four is decent, he doesn’t even have a level five. You can forget about ever playing Gotenks level three. 😉
Overall
Goten is so close to being a real threat on the scene. The damage he can put out is very serious, but he just doesn’t have the support other characters have with their named cards and more usable levels.
Gamer, scientist, and very good with his hands. Follow Didier Greenleaf @DSquareGamer.
Yeah, Goten sucks and Kid Trunks isn’t far behind him. I think it would be cool to see some sort of card that allows for some Goten/Kid Trunks tag action since they are always paling around together in the series and fighting together. And I don’t mean anything that involves Fusion. Sort of a personality of each that works for the other like Chi-chi, Bulma Playmate/Anchor, Chilled, Android 14 etc etc but can’t be removed from game or fused.
IDK…. I’d love to test Goten against a survival vic deck. I’ve had pretty good results with him. If you run TS Black Mastery, Black Physical Focus down to use,Chi Chi from WGS and or fuse into Gotenks lvl 1 to hit for 14S 2L with her, then 20S 2L for fusion it’s pretty brutal. Even using Tien from SS gets boosted to +4 Phys twice if Goten’s power goes through.
This deck sounds interesting!
I’ve personally always enjoyed using goten from the world games saga in a style-less deck. his two attacks always seemed nice when paired with tons of other cards that could also do multiple attacks and with the level 3 allowing for the cherry picking from the discard pile you may get more cards that attack numerous times. a drill or two to add some power and you dont really need the mastery. His major downside then was the low pur which would mostly stop you from using energy attacks but since level 1 allowed you to go to full when stopped that wasn’t that much of a problem, and since you were using a physical beatdown type deck energy attacks wouldn’t really need to be used. Goten may not win you the big tournaments but in a fun sense I think he has great potential.
but losing is good because it makes you come back harder/better/faster/stronger Didier just like vegeta or kanye…pretty soon you’ll get to the top and knock-up a kardashian…
That fish cray.
Or like some french guys, <_<
