Run a Speaking with the King Drill in the red deck, it was/is one of the most underrated cards in Z.
Also, about the Grand Kai, I’d like to talk about the finals a bit since you guys mentioned it. I personally had no clue about the drama with Abnor until after the tournament was over.
I will say the Top 16 was completely screwy because they let us rebuild our decks the night before making the meta-game a big question mark. At ~3am on Saturday, I actually took my Tuff Enuff deck from the day before stripped out thirty cards, threw in some secret tech. Being able to chain Orange Uppercut, into Goku’s Strike(the energy combat that gets a drill), into Speaking with the king drill was incredibly powerful. Basically I just made it a win fast or lose fast deck. It turned out to be pretty ridiculous in play, and a ton of fun. I think I won the Top 4 match on the second or third turn versus Broly who couldn’t come close to matching my damage. Unfortunately, it was the last tourney before GT so I never really got to play it again.
Anyway, the actual match was interesting. From the start I would say it was a bad matchup for my deck. I know I made some mis-plays, (World Champ Punch for life card instead of combat), and I had some pretty poor draws, giving him enough time to setup each game. I still personally think I had the overall stronger but riskier deck, and luck just wasn’t with me that match.
But, no regrets as Im still proud of how I did at the GKI, with the Freiza Saga Uncut Sheet still hanging on my wall. Even if there were problems with implementation I still think GKI was a really exciting event, it was pretty much the last hurrah of Z in a way.
