Hey everyone, first time I wrote an article/deck list so this might suck lol. Recently I was trying to find what I wanted to play at Gencon, I went through different decks, and I came back to wanting to represent Trunks again, being a huge fan of him I felt I needed to. Now last year I ran Trunks, freestyle sword, and really enjoy that but I decided I wanted to play a Trunks Saiyan beat.
Now I know people are going to say “Play Broly” or other such comments, I know there are personalities that can do it better, but I wanted to run Trunks. And I threw this deck together really quick with the help of a friend. And I wanted to post it here to get everyone’s thoughts. Right now my deck has a few card slots open, and I wanted to stay away from super fast first turn win decks that rely on good draws. I wanted this deck to be more survivable, also went with a little bit of a Hybrid Physical/Energy, because of the Saiyan mastery I chose, and because I didn’t want to run into a brickwall if I went one or the other solely. Give me a way around them.
Also, one of the toss ups I have in this deck from the start is which level 4 to use. His stop energy is very strong, but with the way Gencon went last year, there were a lot of physical decks, so I thought Trunks, The Hero, was a good choice, but I’ll take opinions for this too.
And before the “Why Ki push”? I liked the little combo it forms, at level 5, you can enter, gain the 3 extra cards, and then push down for a big attack, and down to one of his negation levels. And by the end of the combat be back to level 5.
Sensei Deck (4)
Attacks (39)
Gohan’s Kick x3
Blocks (15)
Saiyan Brace x3
Combats (9)
Locations (2)
Dragon Balls (2)
Like I said, I put this here to get all your opinions from the great minds that play this game, so I’m open to all criticism.
Deck looks pretty solid. Early game you will struggle against Black decks mainly due to your mastery not drawing extra cards as all the other Saiyan Masteries do. If you can make it to Lvl 5, not much can stand up to the sheer number of cards you will have in your hand. Also, your only real way of slowing down non-combats comes from CiT and Saiyan Strength Blast. I would try to fit in the awesome card Majin Buu’s Fury and Probably another CiT at least. Hope this helps give a little insight. Overall, it reminds me of a deck I played when Buu saga hit the shelves!!!
Having Kid Trunks as your level one doesn’t seem to add a lot to the deck. I would cut him out and play a Trunks level on of your choice (The HT redemption seems like the obvious pick). This will allow you to run 4 of each Trunks named card.
Also not a fan of the Trunks Saga lv. 4, since he only works half the time and his low PLs will hurt you when it comes to the Saiyan cards that compare PLs.
I agree with all that Joshman posted. You really should consider the Lvl 4 from cell saga. Also, considering your playing DBalls already….you might as well run a set and try Saiyan Handstand Kick from Kidbuu. The Earth DBalls will give you some bigger hands along with the Saiyan Handstand Kick acting like a psuedo-Aura Clash for just you!!! I always have found that saiyan energy beats snergizes well with DBalls.
Great advice so far guys, thank you. And didn’t realize Saiyan Power Block was restricted when I built the deck so that opens up more cards for me as I originally had 3. I’ll be switching to the HT Trunks Lv 1 as I originally had, and going with 4 spheres again. The level 4 is still a toss up for a me, but I’m gonna probably run the Cell Saga 4 for the reasons Joshman advised, the power levels are just such a gap. And Steve you recommend all the Dballs?
Another reason to run the Cell Saga level 4 instead of Trunks Saga’s is because it doesn’t conflict with your level 5. The TS one works during opponent’s turn, so you likely wouldn’t enter much as the attacker (thus likely rejuvenating and gaining anger, and quickly leveling). Then, when you do level to level 5, you have to change gears and attack, as he’s worthless on your opponent’s turn.
I’d suggest that if you really want to use the TS level 4, you do not run a level 5 at all.
I did not realize that wording when I was looking at it, it really does clash with the deck once it reaches level 5, and with how much I like the Battler, I’ll be switching the levels 4s immedietly. Thank you
I know you’re trying not to run Non-Combats, but two I always put into aggro decks that focused on higher levels were: Fatherly Advice and Goku’s Farewell; especially with Trunks Lv 5, its one of the best Lv 5 personality powers out there.
Cards I feel you should add:
Saiyan Beef: one of the best physical attacks that can keep your opponent at bay for another turn.
Goku’s Swiftly Moving: This is more of a personal choice than a suggestion, I’ve always seen good results with flinging an energy attack back at your opponent.
-also one final thing to add in, please make sure to fill your sensei deck.
I probably wouldn’t go to level 5. I’d go to level 4 and then pick either the TS or the CS. If you want to draw big hands every turn you should just use the CS Saiyan Mastery as that can draw 2 extra every combat from your level 1. Takes away the need to use that mastery and sensei. If you wanna stick with it, it’s not a bad level by any means though.
I disagree with the advice to change level 1, Kid Trunks lv1 is a beast. 6lc and 2 cards back is a great power though his only issue is high power level. Any trunks level will get DPRed anyway half the time.
Saiyan Perfect Defense is a meh card. I hate unreliable cards. I’d rather just run Pikkon’s Leg Catch/Saiyan Knee Strike/Saiyan Stop or something. Just because you have your mastery it doesn’t mean you won’t hit 0 every now and then and it also can be turned off by North Kai Sensei. I’d ditch clotheslines because against Buu they don’t do anything. Against personalities on 0 they only do like 13 stages or something max. May as well run Cross Punch or something that is more reliable.
The advice to add another CIT and Buu’s Furys I also agree with.
I agree with running fatherly advice and you should definitely run gokus farewell. just make sure you change your mastery if you do. also i would consider running the 4th trunks energy sphere.
I appreciate all the advice, and I’m going to stay with running to level 5 and the mastery that I chose, and I am going to be staying far away from Goku’s Farewell, it’s not what I was looking for in this deck. Majin Buu’s Fury and another CiT is definitely a go, as is Saiyan Beef, I was also looking at adding a few more strong saiyan styled energies, but I’m not really sure which to go with.
To be pretty honest, there are not many Saiyan styled energy attacks that are really great. I get that you’re trying something a little different and I love decks that are outside of the box, but its a challenge to really give advice on this deck.
I just don’t have a lot of experience with the Buu Saga Saiyan Mastery, but I wouldn’t suggest running Goku’s Farewell if you’re set on using that mastery, but Apocalyptic Battle\Aura Clash might not be a bad idea to jump levels and get your opponent off a control based level based around keeping out their drills.
Aura Clash was originally in the deck, but I ran out of room originally so I cut it, but with the space freed up, I was gonna put it back in
The Dballs I usually run in Saiyan is Earth. Combined with Saiyan Handstand, and Sauyan Gut Kick you will reck some face with the card drawing and def force your opponent to enter just to try and steal balls from you.
You don’t want to run Goku’s Farewell in this. 5 attacks and you lose the game.
A few cards I’ve always been partial to are Saiyan Face Smash(the discards can add up against physical decks) and Saiyan Energy Bullet(damage is removed from the game + no endurance for the rest of Combat). I also agree with running the CS Level 4.
What set is Saiyan Face Smash from? And I was looking at Saiyan Energy Bullet and thinking about going with it. And I was thinking of throwing Black Scout maneuver into my Sensei deck, can I really go wrong with that?
Face Smash is Cell Games. And no, it’s really hard to go wrong with Black Scout 😛
you can never go wrong with Black Scout Maneuver, unless you’re naming something like Orange Vegeta’s Assault when facing a Namekian styled deck.
Another idea I would go with is using Pikkon’s Leg Catch if you can get a hold of it. By far one of the best single blocks ever printed. Power up to full, shuffle bottom 3 cards from Discard Pile and its not removed from game…even if it was I’m sure almost everyone who currently runs it would still run it.
I would run Leg catch but I have currently run out of room in the deck. Any suggestions, maybe take out Trunks swiftly moving even though I really like that card
Unlocked Potential is some good in Trunks I hear.
Except it wouldn’t work as much since I plan on gaining levels fairly quick
Hey I know this decklist was posted a while ago, but has there been any changes that should be made note of outside of the Personalities? I decided to make one deck because a bunch of my friends started getting back into this and I wanted to use this decklist (I know I shouldn’t be stealing decklists and what not)
You can use whichever decks you want. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
Hi, it is me again. I got a question or two on card choices. Is there a reason why you are not running Saiyan Face Smash and/or Saiyan Flying Kick? I am curious for your reasons.
