Drunk Chippy Here. Sotally Tober Offiher. So we’re down to the final cards of the virtual set. Garrett is passed out in the back after the Warped Tour (I thought you were a Texan! Pansy!), so it’s time for this designer to shine! As I’ve made a ridiculous amount of cards for this game (over 1000+), so it is a little hard to come up with new ideas that don’t break the entire game. My first idea was an energy attack that let you draw any card from your Sensei deck, but nooooooo. Had to be broken within 5 minutes (curse you playtesters!). Then a previous idea came up letting you steal Non-Combats per the Dragonball Capture rules. But noooooooo. Stupid rules lawyers and your “What if I have different drills of the same color?” and other rules conflicts (curse you rules lawyers!). So now, it’s time for a different idea.
So Red is pretty focused, isn’t it? “Hi, all I do is play this anger game that most other decks don’t”. I’ve never been the biggest fan of anger decks, purely because they play a specific style of game that you MUST pack cards in your deck to play against. Dragonball decks have mechanics in the game that lets all decks play with them, but anger decks don’t. So let’s come up with something to shake that anger archetype up, while also making something new and different! What about a Red Drill that is actually really good? You know, actually attempts to stick around and provides you with a nice effect. And wouldn’t it be nice if Red did something besides gain levels? Well, here ya go. Convert all that terrible anger gain into something useful! This card should make things pretty brutal against Non-Combat heavy decks, and should still be usable against combat decks as well.
“But Chippy! Why Spopovich?!?!?!” Because he’s got the funniest name outside of Mr. Popo, and we’ve used all of our Popo images…. Then again, haven’t I seen this image somewhere before? Bah, in Score tradition we S-H-A-L-L N-O-T C-A-R-E!!!! Make it so, and this too shall pass. Besides, he’s bald. Perfect balance reasons behind Nappa GT and Krillin, so why not here? I don’t want to here any arguments. This is the best thing to bald dudes since the Hair Club for Men. And if you actually play Spopovich (which I don’t expect, but would be REALLY funny), you get… a… fourth…. Ok, Named Card rules suck. I give in. =p
Oh, and side note. You should really come to GenCon this year. August 16-18th. Trust me, this designer still has a few secrets up his sleeves. There will be an announcement that you will tell your grandchildren “Yeah, I was there! That was the best day since I lost my virginity!” Be there, GenCon, August 16-18, old players and new. You’re brain will never be the same again!

best article ever.

Quick question though — can the text be changed to “when you would gain anger in combat”? Otherwise it leaves a ? about out-of-combat anger, like dragon balls and personality powers.
and after re-reading your drunken mess again, YES I AM A RULES LAWYER, DEAL WITH IT!
HUSH YOU! I already dealt with living a week with you w/ Kunk. Let me have my fun!

hahaha oh come on, I wasn’t that bad! After all, your shower head flew off the pipe and bashed me in the head, remember? good times. plus, living with you for a week in TX kept me off the east coast during that insane black out.
Drunken Chippy here. Card was designed to handle anger gains outside of combat. Thus the the test “for rest of turn” so that it combos with Blazing Anger, etc.

STOP RAINING ON MY PARADE!!!!
Doesnt the drill do nothing but stop you from gaining anger? it says you can not gain anger. Then it says when you gain anger….The first line would ensure that the second part would never happen. Needs to be changed to
You can not gain anger. Whenever a card effect tells you to gain anger…
The word “would” makes it go off, even if you can’t gain anger in this instance and for this card in particular.
I’m making decks and playtesting decks daily! By Gen-con I’ll be bringing a ton of proxy decks. Hopefully I find one decent enough to enter the tournament. lol
Same here, I have about 6 decks made up. Can’t decide.
Hmm in tough enough this is pretty broken. Aura clash is now useful in red as well.
It doesn’t activate for each anger you gain, just for each instance you gain anger. For example, if you used Aura Clash that would not let you add +6 life to all your attacks or discard 6 non-combats. It would only add +1 life or discard a non-combat, since it only makes you raise your anger once.
Ironically, even though this is a Spopovitch card it would actually work amazing well with Videl HT Lv. 1.
Whoever wrote this article is a genius!
this card is amazing. since spopovich is a physical attacking deck adding extra damage to his physical attacks is good as well as going for the physical beatdown decks in red. those could use a ton of drills. and since he works well in both of those now this is a card id run myself. and i cant go to gen con since i dont have a ride.
this is pretty cool, as it actually breathes new life into Tapion sword, post-brokenness.
I’m kinda eager to see what Broly Lv. 1 could do with it.
Hmm.. so, this completely destroys Kind Cold Blue DV… all they need is that on the table and Im the one boosting their attacks and allowing them to discard my noncombats… damn you.
true, Bill — but you should be packing many forms of drill removal, anyway! You can also still SET their anger with cards like Bojack’s Extreme Assailment.
question about this…it doesn’t say anything about YOUR card effects to gain anger…does that mean that while you have this drill out you are un-auraclash-able?
Yes, that’s the way I understand it.
