Just because Gen Con is over, doesn’t mean that Virtual Cards are done! We want to continue to encourage fun games by adding new cards for you to try out and for us to play with on the stream (whenever we get to our next one). We wanted to have a Halloween themed card set in October, so we are introducing 13 spooky new virtual cards this month. Nine personality cards for some characters new to the game, one new support card and three new personality cards for an old rogue in need of some love (we’ll be saving that one for the day of Halloween). Until then, for this week and the next we’ll be previewing a new archetype based on Celestial personalities from Dragon Ball.
Baba was mentioned in a previous article as being an unused personality with plenty of potential. We tried to reflect that here, with Baba being a stasis personality who’ll depend on some very specific allies.
Baba has the unique power of being able to pull Celestial personalities out of the Sensei deck and use them as allies. Unfortunately, neither Baba nor any of her allies in play are able to perform attacks. With only three levels, she’s not going to be able to win many games by the Most Powerful Personality Victory. She could be a potential Dragon Ball Victory personality, but that’s not going to be where she shines. You’ll have to check back as we reveal more Celestial allies for her to call on but one thing will be certain: you’ll need to move Baba up to her later levels ASAP if you want to stand a chance against some of the more aggressive decks. Just like in the show, the early rounds against Baba and her fighters might be easy, but the later rounds will be killer! I should also point out that Earth’s Spirit Bomb is not an attack…
There’s just so much to say about Baba and what she can do, but that will have to wait until we see what support she’ll get in the form of her Celestial Warriors and magical spells. Check back on Wednesday as her first fighter enters the ring.
Later, BroZ.
Called it.
We playtested Baba a bunch and sent her through the wringer, but as always if anyone can break her then let us know with a decklist and write up that proves your point. We want everyone to have fun with these, not dominate the game.
So are we gonna get more celestial fighter allies too? I think baba is a really cool idea but the lack of good celestial fighters make spirit bomb the only real form of attack without more testing/allies. One other thing to think about is making a goku & vegeta and some of the other z warriors into celestial fighter allies because at one point or another they all trained in otherworld with the celestial fighters. Just something to think about but great job as always
All the fighters from the Fortune Teller Baba Saga will be Celestials that will work more with Baba than any of the current batch of Celestials.
Are you implying that “Vegeta, the Celestial” should be a Celestial Fighter? Or that Goku with wings + halo should? What nonsense is this!?
dont forget hero dabora and yamcha the amazing.
If we made every personality who died into a Celestial, that would pretty much be all personalities but Baba and Hercule.
dont say ya have to, but when a character is song to be dead with halo and or wings or has celestial in their title and dont count as a celestial fights, its kind of stupid
blah meant Shown not song, what i get for respond at almost 3 in the morning
i like what you’re doing…but i can see there already needs to be a wording change due to the timing of the first part of her power…i’m not sure where you’re going exactly with this with these other apparent ‘celestial fighters’…but with the first part of her power that every ally gains that effect, the first turn you’d put all celestials from your sensei into play…her power would trigger first, then (still at the beginning of the turn) that ally’s power would trigger as he goes into play (because its a constant effect)…and so on…you gotta figure a clause to re-word it so it doesn’t work like that…something that says ‘if you have not played a celestial personality from your sensei deck yet this turn…’…otherwise its tapkar’s power stacking all over again…or you could find a way to word it so it still stacks +1 every turn:
turn1- baba gets +1 ally
turn2- baba + ally gets +2 more allys
turn3- baba + 3 allys get +4 more allys
turn4- baba + 7 allys get +8 more allys
…this way though you’ll still max out everyone playable character that you have in 3-4 turns…still no reason to ever need to get to lv.2 or 3
or just seperate the powers so that the allys only get the first part of not attacking and the putting back into sensei stuff and not the part that brings them back out…
So what you are saying is that ally Constant Combat powers are always in effect?
ah boo-cocky you got me…i wasn’t thinking that even if an ally has a ccp he still has to be in control DURING COMBAT for it to ever work…you crd’d me good…if only i could use piccolo’s knowledge drill…
Heh heh, bukkake!
I smell Earth’s Spirit Bomb.
So would you be able to use the celestial fighters from World Games Saga along with whatever gets released this month?
The short answer is yes, but other than being Spirit Bomb fodder they really don’t add anything to Baba.
