Last year, our styled cards were well received but didn’t get much fanfare. It’s hard to compete with new and exciting personalities sometime, when you’re just a styled card for a niche archetype. We feel that it is important to add a few cards into the mix that are more than just things you have to build your deck around, but we also want to avoid the staple status. Here are two cards that we made that we felt could help some colors, including the Orange style we neglected last time around.
Orange Overpowering Drill helps virtually all masteries but the overpowered Majin Buu Saga Orange Mastery. With the World Games Saga Mastery, it’s essentially an additional Orange Joint Restraint Drill with extra sexy results.
Namekian Insult addresses a deficiency in the Namekian Style by adding some anger when you use the lackluster Cell Saga Namekian Mastery. If you notice, there is no limit to the number you can attach to your mastery, so you can eventually have your physical attacks gaining you 3 anger per pop and sending you up there in levels. A potent Namekian Combo if you want to shoot up to Kami-Sama or Piccolo the Defender for some massive damage.
Check back next week for the ultimate fighting force in the galaxy to make their triumphant return.
Later, BroZ!
I am really not a fun of these cards at all. The orange drill isn’t like a overpowering drill at all. It either adds 1 life or 2 stages. That’s pretty crappy. Why not just run android attack drills? I would change it to the drill does double the Mastery’s modifier. So it would add 4 stages or 2 life.
The Namekian one could be good if it wasn’t limited to cell saga mastery. I know you are attempting to get the other masteries some play but neither one of these cards would sway anyone to play the other masteries.I wouldn’t even run Orange Overpower Drill if I was already using those masteries. The Namekian one might be ran if I was already using the Cell Saga Mastery but if I were using that over WGS in a physical beatdown, I already lost.
“The Namekian one might be ran if I was already using the Cell Saga Mastery but if I were using that over WGS in a physical beatdown, I already lost.”
Yeah, that’s why a good card was made to make it more attractive. Because it’s worse than all three of the other Masteries. Thus, it gets a card that’s really good. That’s kind of how balance is supposed to work. You don’t make a really good card to help one Mastery and then let it be used just as effectively by another Mastery that already completely overshadows the former.
You’re missing the point. This card is not close to being good enough to bring it to the same level as WGS for physical beats. I see what you are trying to do, but this card needs to be better to accomplish that. Would you rather draw a extra card most of the time or be able to run 3 of these? I will take the card every single day.
Depends on the MP and how fast paced the environment is. If I’m using Future Gohan, for example, his higher levels are amazing (enough so that 2 or 3 people used him in MBS Saiyan last year just to get that high). So yes, people would rather hit higher levels at times.
However, if it’s so fast paced that you cannot afford to not have that extra card in the first combat, then… well, I’d say there’s something a bit wrong with the environment as a whole at that point.
overpowering drill constantly checks the modifiers. it will do +4 stages instantly with WGS and the life cards will grow as your modifier increases. the “once per combat” trigger is just so that the check doesn’t “double a double” etc.
NVM, i be a idiot.
For some reason I was totally blanking the part of the mastery where it adds a stage for every successful physical.
Agreed, but overpowering drill never does +4. It doesn’t actually add anything. it doubles the mastery. So it adds two to wgs. So you’re really only getting two stages out of it and not four unless I am completely reading it wrong.
Mastery does +2 stages all the time. So once an attack hits, it will be doing +4 stages for the rest of combat. The second effect will continue to grow, starting with +2 life, then +4, then +6, etc. No ceiling either.
I’ve enjoyed going nuts with healing and stacking the deck with endurance for the late-game by using the cell saga Namekian mastery, just as a cute deck, and I appreciate this second wacky enhancement for it.
Either way I honestly don’t think either of these do any thing to make their respective Masteries worth playing still. But I appreciate the effort.
Yay! Somebody used Empower! =p
Chippy
Not sure why you’d use it though, since it looks like the Insults can stack.
I would most Definitely use that Orange Drill in WGS Orange. The first attack is only going to do the +2 Stages, then it will do +4 Stages and +2 Life, then +4 and +4 then +4 and +6. I don’t see how that is a bad thing from a single card.
Play it with TS Tien, do a few orange attacks to get the +4 +6 built up then use his power. Add in Joint Resistance Drill and you have some huge attacks.
I like them. Good job gang.
Buffing weak masteries? Now we’re talking!
Orange drill is great but I would have preferred a orange physical attack over a buff to the WGS mastery. It’s is good though, it competes with Joint Restraint while not being over powered.
Can’t say much about the Namekian card. I probably don’t even own 85 Namekian cards, let alone have experience playing the style.
:O
I almost see a reason to bring back lord slug. Nice cards guys.
Namekian Insults only really intriguing factor to me is the stacking. I might build a modified namekian beat down and see how fast I can level up.
Nice to see some of the other orange masteries gettin some love! I dunno if this card would really be enough for the TS/CS ones though, it basically just ends up being +1 life which is pretty average, and it won’t even apply to your first successful attack in combat.
I like them.
Orange Overpowering Drill: I like it. I think it should been “all of your modifiers…” and not just from your mastery. This would work very well with the wgs mastery, so orange wgs tien could be very fun to play. For the ts and cs, meh.
Namekian Insult: On the fence with it. Most namekian decks run aura clash anyways. I’ve never seen a namekian mppv lol, but i’d like to. I think that it should have been written so that you can still win by mppv but only can have one of those cards attached at a time.
I’d really like to see something like Namekian Insult for the WGS Blue and red mastery. Talk about mediocre masteries
