Uub – The Unplayable Dream

Hey, BroZ. We’re gonna try out a new segment here called “The Unplayable Dream”. These articles are gonna highlight some of the Main Personality choices out there that are way underused, but have at least one redeemable quality about them. Not all cards featured are “unplayable” but some need more work than others. Let’s get started.

The Upside

Uub is an interesting personality that actually has damn good disruptive powers perfect for a great attack deck. Better yet, his powers remain near constant with growing effectiveness as he gains levels, meaning you can actually build a stable deck around him with the intention of gaining personality levels. His power stages are decent, and actually raise quite considerably compared to most other non-Saiyan personalities. As Uub grows, his powers really compliment a great beats deck. He would work well in any Trunks Saga Black Style Mastery deck, but for my money I like to play him in Trunks Saga Orange Style Mastery energy beats since he can actually skimp on drills and dedicate those deck spots to anger cards to get Uub up there in levels with his Constant Combat Powers acting like multiple drills already. Plus you can use the Orange Mastery to lower your standard energy attack costs from 2 to 1, and then Uub’s Level 2 and 3 power from 1 to 0 for free energy beats that can’t be prevented with endurance, all damage is removed from the game and (on Level 3) your Orange Style attacks are focused. Goku Sensei makes sense thematically and construction wise, since you aren’t likely to win by Most Powerful Personality Victory with only three levels or against a personality more conducive to a 1-3 Victory deck.

The Downside

No Level Four. As mentioned in the upsides, Uub is very vulnerable to a 1-3 Most Powerful Personality Victory. Uub could work in a Cell Saga Red Style Mastery deck, but he’s really robbed of a feasible Trunks Saga Red Style Mastery MPPV deck without a level four and five.

No Saiyan/Namekian Heritage. Uub is tailor made for beats, the problem is that his powers are more technical than aggressive. Without card advantage provided by Saiyan/Namekian masteries or impossibly large power stages like Evil Buu, he starts to lag behind quickly in the early game that beats traditionally needs to dominate.

Anger Dependent. While decent, Uub Lv. 1 isn’t going to win you games and you don’t want to be parked there long. Uub needs to start jumping levels quickly and get to level three to be a force to be reckoned with. Not easy against quicker beats decks and with Black and Orange as your best bets.

Overall

Uub is up there as a great personality in theory, the game just doesn’t have the infrastructure to support a non-Saiyan character geared for more technical beats. Uub is still a force to be reckoned with at higher levels, the trick is getting there with enough beats in your pocket and time to pull out a win.
