When it comes to power levels, unless you are talking about Fusion personalities the heroes have always fallen way short. There are no Evil Buus swinging from Power Bracket E first turn for the good guys, so we tried to come up with something to remedy that. The problem is, there are no immensely powerful heroes coming right out with their power. Ironically, the five strongest non-Fusion heroes at Lv. 1 in the original game are Majin Buu, Majin Vegeta, Majin Dabura and Android 16, with GT Preview Goku a three-way tie for third strongest. So we decided to take a slightly different approach with a character that made more sense… at Level 3.
You might be asking, well what good is a Level 3 when Evil Buu goes off on turn one? Well the answer for that is simple, in one card that always had some great potential but never really had anything great to take advantage of it: Gohan’s Immense Power. This card let’s you jump two levels for a single turn, so you can start popping your opponent with some pretty beefy beats. Not only that, Gohan’s power is like a Showdown and Face Off all in one. True it will affect Gohan as well, so no jumping to Level 5 with another Gohan’s Immense Power or continued beats with a Saiyan Gut Kick, but hopefully your deck has been built with this guy in mind. The best part is, this guy can be used in any Style of deck and would make a decent addition to a Red Anger deck.
Gohan already has some great Level 1 characters as well, but the standout for this guy will likely be Gohan the Bookworm. This guy really ups the chances that you’ll get an Immense Power in a combat. Plus if you already drew into one, you can grab an all important Gohan’s Kick for one wild combat.
Later, BroZ!
Considering Gohan’s other personality powers and named cards along with having saiyan heritage, this could turn out to be way OP. Curious to see how this plays out.
I really like this gohan level, but i would change the wording\grammar on the card to make the card power flow better.
This is how i feel this is how the power should read.
Power: when you advance to this level draw a card. Other personality powers (etc) can not be used for remainder of combat.
This almost reminds me of the GFHT buu level 2 which had 2 seperate powers, which could cause confusion and rule nazis who could twist the current power into saying “it shuts off powers including his own so i can still play the non usable stuff now.”
I agree that the wording should be clarified.
Now THAT’S mystic!
Dangit, I should’ve abbreviated Gohan’s Immense Power as “GImP” in the article. Sigh, all the best thoughts come too late.
You guys probably know more about game design than I but this card seems to be targeting the wrong deck types. You are saying you want a hero to go toe to toe with the villain bruises and this card does everything but saying ‘if you are playing a dragonball/control deck you lose.’ I think something like ‘draw a card . Your opponent lowers his MP to 0’ or something to actually tech against villain beats would be way more appropriate.
I’m just going to ask here, since it’s most recent. What cards in the virtual sets are legal and not legal? I read somewhere that says “Pikkon, Ghost of Nameks Past” isn’t legal. I can’t find it anywhere on the site. It’d be nice to know what is and isn’t. Also, Fusion Frenzy/Majin Mastery has been mentioned several times and never answered from what I could tell…whats the verdict on this? My small group just moved up from standard to using proxies/Retro rules, however we still like to follow tournament legalities.
All Virtual Cards are legal (though there is one Tuff Enuff Format Only card). Any Virtual card made by Score is not legal, including Fusion Frenzy, Majin Mastery and Da Bomb.
Okay cool, thanks. I really wanted to use that Pikkon. Also, great Gohan. Tempted to make a Gohan deck using him since I was looking at him earlier when deciding on a deck. One more quick question…Victorious Drill. Is there anything going on with this drill? Is it still legal as a proxy
or what?
If only I could run him in a namek deck.
Gohan is one of my favorite personalities since he has so many different choices. This will be a nice addition, can’t wait to test it!
Question: Would this power activate if one were to reach level 3 via a card like Supreme Kai’s Ki Push (from level 4)?
I assume it would work, but I wonder because of the word “advance.”
I would say no. Advancing a level is only when gaining a level not losing a level.
Yep. The CRD makes clear distinction between the two in its wording I believe.
I agree with this assessment.
Good to know.
Thanks for the responses, guys!
Having played around with this card and talked to other players I return to my original position. This guy is way too powerful. Like first turn win. This power with any other personality is fine, but, Buu saga Freestyle mastery, Gohan’s Immense power x4, and Gohan’s elbow block x4 pretty much guarantee you can use this power every combat. Just saying, this card feels more like a GT personality than a Z.
With this Gohan does Caught off guard drill get turned off and the card can once again be used? Come to think of it all Drills in general? It says they cannot be played or used but aren’t drills like a floating effect, with the exception of ones you have to activate like A20 Absorbing and Defense drills?
