Occasionally we goof up a bit with our virtual cards, and we’ve always relied more on the community to help catch our mistakes since we don’t always have the time or resources to continually playtest eight hours a day, five days a week like back in our Score days. Well after hearing some concerns and receiving decklists with very well thought-out write-ups and match reports from some dedicated players, we have decided to take the rare step of banning a Virtual Card. As of now, and effective for the upcoming North Kai Tournament, Virtual Card Set 2013 Card #32 Gohan – Father to Be Lv. 3, is now banned. It has been removed from the website and is only viewable here via the original announcement story. This change will be reflected in an upcoming CRD.
Why did we ban this card? Two reasons:
1) He was just too strong and completely shut down too many decks from doing anything. We felt that this would have a very negative impact on the meta and play experience for everyone involved, and wanted to remove him before he had a chance to impact the game at events.
2) In errata’ing him, we dropped his power levels to the point where it didn’t make sense to have him be Adult Gohan and ergo a “Father to Be”. We reverted him back to Teen Gohan and gave him a new title, thus making a completely new card and necessitating the banning of the original.
Here is the updated new, legal Gohan!
What’s different from the original?
-New title and image
-Power levels have been lowered by about 3,000,000. Gohan now is in Bracket “E” or “F” if he is at full power. The previous Gohan stayed in Bracket “G” he entire time.
-Gohan no longer draws a card when he reaches Lv. 3.
-Personality powers on Main Personalities are no longer affected by this power, however Constant Combat Powers on all personalities are.
-Ally personality powers are now affected.
-Combat cards are no longer affected.
We feel that this Gohan is still a very viable and dangerous personality, though not quite as overpowered as before. This also opens up a few new tricks, like the ability to play two Gohan’s Immense Power cards per turn, enabling you to go all the way up to Gohan, Earth’s Protector and his ridiculous power level of 10,000,000 (and even use his personality power too).
That’s it for now, get to tweaking those decks! We’ll hopefully have a new CRD out within the next week or so, and plan to release a new Janemba set soon (that won’t be legal for the North Kai Event).
Later, BroZ!
This seems much more manageable, thank you.
Quick question: Cannot use dragon balls means just their powers, or are they still unable to be played as was with Father-to-be?
They can be played, but their powers cannot be used. This also affects stolen balls and balls with constant effects.
Since they cannot be used, it also means you cannot play EDB7 directly from your hand, as that’s part of its power.
Now THAT’S much better 😉
This guy will be another viable option for a very strong, Gut Kick-less Saiyan Stasis.
Glad to see the change, there was no answer to him before. By Non-Combat does this still affect drills or non drill non-combats? A lot of cards tend to be fuzzy on this.
All Drills are Non-Combats but not all Non-Combats are Drills.
Like the change, the original was way overpowered but I have two question, is his power a power that needs to be activated or is it automatically activated when you reach that level? And how long does it stay active like if you used a second gohan’s immense power and drop back down this personality level?
Disregard the second question I’m an idiot.
It’s automatically activated.
To me the biggest loss is the extra card drawn, making Immense Power no longer “replace” itself in your hand.
It’s a small loss, with gohan the book worm lv 1’s power and some gohan elbows it’s not a major loss.
Bookworm’s power will either be fetching you a Immense Power, or you’ll be ditching a Gohan card in your hand with your Mastery to fetch it. So say you don’t have Vegeta’s Quickness Drill out, and you have one card from your previous hand and you draw three. You have four cards, and then you use either Bookworm or Mastery to get Immense Power. You now have 4 cards and Immense Power. You play Immense Power and it no longer replaces it leaving you with four cards to work with and no attack at lv. 1 or 3 to artificially make up for the deficit.
Also, the new power on this Gohan no longer shuts off Combat cards, so you can at least play Confrontation, but now your opponent can also play it or Staredown, TIAWT, SSE, etc etc so there goes a little bit more of an artificial card advantage.
So the draw a card loss isn’t the end of the world, but when facing down a Saiyan or Namekian deck that has six or seven card hands, along with personality powers to attack with, this Gohan has a lot harder time keeping up. Not to mention the loss in base that made up his hits count for much more.
this is decent…before it was just stupid crazy powerful for the power level, draw, retarded effect neutralizing…um…everything…but this is powerful but manageable…still strong, but doable…thank you
I loved the old image, hope you find a good excuse to use it again. Like this one even more though, good shit.
