One area of the game that felt like it could use some true expansion was the Sensei card pool. However, we did not want to just go creating new Sensei cards that might end up overpowered or underpowered, so we looked to the GT card pool and chose two that would carry over well for what they should accomplish into the Retro format. Of course, we tweaked them slightly to try and make them more easily used and approachable.
The first Sensei should be of no surprise, as it was the most popular to be used of the GT Sensei cards. That is, the Black Smoke Dragon Sensei. Keeping with the original design, this one is also a dragon. To make this Sensei more easily used, his power was broken into two uses of seven cards removed each, rather than a single use of fifteen cards removed. While it removes one less card total, it also allows you to use it without having to wait for the most opportune moment. Further, his deck size was increased by one, as discard pile removal no longer aids your leveling (Black Energetic Mastery from GT), nor dampens the opponent’s leveling (GT leveling mechanic).
The second Sensei to be revamped for the Retro environment is King Kai Sensei from the Lost Episodes Saga. His original powers only prevented mill effects and lowered discard pile removal. However, for the Retro revamp, his power now affects your Life Deck as a whole, rather than just the top. This means card effects such as Black Scout Maneuver now hit two less copies of the named card, making this a prime Sensei choice for decks that rely on a single card, such as Orange Vegeta’s Assault or Dragon’s Victory. With this added functionality, his deck size was lowered by one.
What happens if your opponent Kid Buu’s Prepped Crash’d you while you have Whis Sensei? Does it remove the entire discard pile minus 2 or…?
I really like the introduction of these to the Retro environment. Good work.
i would assume they get to choose 2 to keep
Majin Buu’s Heal Kick only removes 3, Black Searching Tech only removes 1? Sounds good to me.
Black smoke sensei removed 10, not 15. 14 total seems like quite a bit. Otherwise, looks good.
