The Top 10 Events in the Inuyahsa TCG

The announcement of a new show in the Inuyasha universe has made me nostalgic for the Inuyasha TCG.  A game I spend a good part of my 20s working on as the lead designer.  I am not the only one feeling nostalgic.  The Inuyasha section of the site had been one of the most viewed sections of the site since the announcement of Yashahime:  Princess Half-Demon. Today we are going to take a look at what I consider to be the top 10 event cards in the game.  So without further ado in alphabetical order:

Depicting one of the saddest scenes from the anime A Tragic Death is one of the most versatile cards in the game. A variety of decks in the game use protection strategies. If your characters colors are not able to break through your opponents protection wall A Tragic Death is a way for you to get through. The card is useful in decks that go wide using a lot of lower cost characters. You can sacrifice a one cost character to take out your opponents five cost character.

The Cost of War is one of the few board wipes in the game.  The deck cost of the card is pretty steep.  But that’s what makes the card so good.  The shuffle key work allows you to remove the card and shuffle cards from your discard pile into your deck.

Halt is an event that stops your opponents event.  In a game with very few countering effects it has to make the list.

Is That All You Got? is pretty much a staple in any deck.  It can bring back your defeated characters on a turn that didn’t go your way.  You can also use it to save resources in your hand for another turn.

Just Ask For Help

In a game were you can only play two characters a turn with out using a trick of some sorts any card that lets you put a character into play during is a win. You cant attack with character the turn you us Just Ask for Help. On the upside you do not have to pay the characters deck cost. Imagine putting the power Sesshomaru, Transformed into play without having to pay for the steep deck cost.

Keeping Warm was so good it had to receive an errata to limited to four copies per a deck and removed from the game after use. Running strong high cost characters comes at a price. You will burn through your deck very fast. Keeping warm is a way for you to replenish your deck after playing some strong characters. It also allows you to set up your discard pile for various card drawing effects to get the cards you really want.

Naraku’s Evil Influence is a very powerful card. It steals a your opponents best character and allows to jump the character curve on the turn you play it. But be careful which character you steal. Not every character plays well with each other. Most notability Inuyasha and Sesshomaru.

One of the unique things about the Inuyasha card game was that there were no card limits. Unless otherwise stated on the card you could run thirty copies of the same card. And sometimes people did just that. Ready for War is the perfect answer to combat those types of strategies. I am also a fan of the information you gain by searching your opponents deck for the named card.

I have always been a fan of utility cards. Surprise Attack is just that. You can outfit your Kaitou deck with all types of utility. Stat pumps, item destruction, item stealing, location destruction or character killing. Your imagination is the limit with this card.

Having trouble hitting your opponents strongest color stat? Whirlwind Slice is just the card to help you out in that solution. It is important to note that Whirlwind Slice performs the attack. Which can lead to some awkward card interactions.

I am sure there are plenty of events I left of this list. If there is an event you would have put on the list let me know in the comments.
