One of my favorite scenes in Wrath of the Dragon is right before the credits roll. Tapion hands his sword to his new friend, Trunks, followed by flashing scenes of its use against Frieza and his father, highlighting that it was the Kontas Hero’s sword all along. Greetings Dragon Ballers, Didier here with my favorite movie character: Tapion.

Tapion Lv. 2

I’ve played him every way I saw possible. Having no card advantage and seeing the combo potential of Tapion’s Swordplay Drill and the Black TS Mastery, that’s where my mind went first. The Black style solved hand advantage problems, but it just didn’t have the anger support to jump off his level two. Red is obviously the best for this, followed by Orange with Orange Rapid Attacks, clearly enough of a reason to play Orange alone.

The main problem, the problem everyone talks about with him is leaving the level two and getting to the power of his three. His power on two isn’t bad, trading 2 anger when fetching The Sword of Trunks with a Sword Slice is pretty awesome. However, outside that they have to be in your hand. Making you want to play a bunch of Freestyle Non-Combats in decks that have no card advantage and punish you for having freestyle in your deck. Forget about it with Majin Buu’s Fury.

It doesn’t actually give you something. Actually, none of his levels do save for the four. It only modifies your other cards and facilitates their use. By itself, it adds no damage or utility. In some games this makes the level blank until you reach three. Especially considering you are building an aggressive deck and not one that plays Non-Combats.

27 Tapion Lv. 2

Enjoy this alternative. Now instead of trading cards in your hand for anger, get some for free when entering combat! As “The Sword of Trunks” is Tapion’s sword, he should be starting the game with it. Suddenly, that Ocarina of Tapion seems closer inside the realm of possibility. Sword cards you play really start hitting hard the second this guy enters the fight.

Rather than waiting until level three to do more damage with your swords, start dishing it out much earlier. Just like the previous level though when you reach this you’ll have to wait a bit to reap the benefits. You better have one left in your deck!

I hope to start seeing him used in other decks than Red. Especially with all that styled support coming out soon.

Until next time!
